This Week
Rome’s week ended 10 December 2011. Rome’s La Colorada - Esmeralda, Sonora, Project (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
This week and next, Rome is in the process of shutting down its active exploration in Sonora, Mexico, in preparation for the Christmas and New Year holiday season. Consequently, this will be the last Weekly Report for this year. Trust that they have been of interest.
Below, are some pictures of some interesting old workings from the La Colorada – Esmeralda Project. The pictures are from an old mill site on the South Belt of the Esmeralda Grid, and they show a number of features found within this site that are significant to our ongoing exploration for gold and silver in the area. These features are described in the figure captions.

The left picture shows the foundation of a gold stamp mill on the South Belt of the La Colorada - Esmeralda area. Right, is a wall made from local rocks that are limonite-rich after often gold-rich sulfides.
![]()
The left picture is a close-up of the wall (above right) and shows that the rusty limonite is also rich in green scorodite, which is a secondary arsenic mineral commonly associated with gold. The final right picture shows float that is rich in the copper mineral malachite; in this environment secondary copper is commonly after tetrahedrite, which can be silver rich.
Secondary iron oxide, arsenic and copper in the pictures, above, abundant in locally derived rocks in the old mill area, are strong indicators of gold and silver mineralization. These features helped to draw our attention to the significance of this area.
Rome extends the very best of the season to everyone!
Rome’s week ended 03 December 2011. Trench/Track - Sampling on Rome’s La Colorada - Esmeralda, Sonora, Property (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
This week, on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Gold Grid, geochemical sampling at approximately five meters intervals was completed on the bulldozer trenching/tracks related to the Esmeralda Mine (E trenches/tracks—see last week’s report for map locations) and the South Zone (S trenches/tracks). The following numbers of samples have been collected: trench/track E1 = 38 samples. E2 = 32 samples, E3 = 10 samples, E4 = 36 samples, E5 = 33 samples, S1 = 177 samples, and S2 = 177 samples. These samples will be systematically assayed for multiple elements with our in-house Niton XRF analyzer, and for gold and silver by Pioneer Laboratories in Richmond, BC, Canada. Analytical results will help to optimize the location of reverse circulation (RC) drill holes to be drilled early next year.
Trenching in the northern La Patria area on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Gold Grid is awaiting surface access permission from the rancher holding the surface rights. This work will await the New Year.
Next week, reject samples from the reverse circulation drilling on the Don Luis Property will be re-bagged and organized in San Miguel de Horcasitas. These samples are expected to be important in future metallurgical testing that will aid in estimation of the recovery of silver and gold by leaching and/or by other methods, including gravity separation. Alvarez and Godwin, both in Hermosillo in the state of Sonora, Mexico, will continue updating all data. Godwin will complete the logging of completed RC holes on the East and Central Zones of the Don Luis Property.
Trenches/tracks on the La Colorada - Esmeralda Gold Grid (for trench locations see maps in last week’s report). Left picture is of the south end of trench/track S1. Central picture is of red oxidation and white sericitic (fine, white muscovite mica) alteration in trench/track E1. The right picture is intense sericitic alteration with oxidized pyrite boxwork from trench/track E3 (pencil eraser-tip is about 5 mm in diameter). These pictures show the strong alteration associated with gold anomalies in this area. This alteration style superimposed on quartz-feldspar intrusive porphyry indicates a gold-porphyry type of mineralization, which implies that substantial tonnages of low-grade gold mineralization might be developed in exploration of this area.
Rome’s week ended 26 November 2011. Trenching on Rome’s La Colorada - Esmeralda, Sonora, Property (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
This week, on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Gold Grid, bulldozer trenching/track construction was completed on priority trenches, marked in green (map, below), related to the Esmeralda Mine and South Zone. Trenching in the northern La Patria area is awaiting surface access permission from the rancher holding the surface rights. The overview map from last week’s report shows from north to south the three main areas of interest, namely: (i) La Patria, (ii) La Esmeralda Gold Mine, and (iii) the soil, gold anomalies of the South Zone. The map, below, shows the trenches around the abandoned La Esmeralda Gold Mine, and the soil, gold anomalies in the South Zone. The colored background on this map is the geochemical anomaly of gold in soil. The trenches cut through a number of old gold workings, some of which are shown as purple crosses. All trenches are being sampled at about five meter intervals. The geochemical results from these samples will help to optimize the location of reverse circulation drill holes.
Next week, geochemical sampling of the trenches/tracks completed on the Esmeralda Grid on the La Colorada Property will continue. These samples will be systematically analyzed by our in-house Niton XRF instrument. Alvarez will continue work on updating all data and organizing sample rejects from Don Luis. Godwin, in Vancouver, will be designing ongoing exploration.
This map shows preliminary trenching/tracks (green lines) within the La Colorada - Esmeralda Gold Grid around the: (i) La Esmeralda Gold Mine, and (ii) gold anomalies in the South Area. The background represents geochemical values for gold in soil (red to white is anomalously high in gold). Abandoned mines and workings are shown as purple crosses.
Rome’s week ended 19 November 2011. Trenching on Rome’s La Colorada - Esmeralda, Sonora, Property (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
This week, on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Gold Grid, bulldozer trenching and track construction continued to facilitate geochemical sampling and RC drill access Most of the initially planned trenches for the Esmeralda Mine and South Zone areas have been completed. The left picture or map, below, shows all the initial trenches planned, from north to south, around: (i) the abandoned La Patria Gold Mine, (ii) the abandoned La Esmeralda Gold Mine, and (iii) the soil, gold anomalies in the South Zone. Planned trenches are marked as green lines. The right picture shows part of a trench in the South Zone that totals about a kilometer in length. The trenches cut through a number of old gold workings, some of which are shown as purple crosses in the left map. All trenches are being sampled at about five meter intervals. The geochemical results from these samples will help to optimize the location of reverse circulation drill holes.
Next week, bulldozer work on the Esmeralda Grid on the La Colorada Property will continue. Geochemical sampling of the trenches/tracks will advance. These samples will be systematically analyzed by our in-house Niton XRF instrument. Alvarez will continue work on updating all data and organizing sample rejects from Don Luis. Godwin, in Vancouver, will be preparing budgets for Rome’s ongoing exploration.
Left picture shows an overview of preliminary trenching in progress within the La Colorada - Esmeralda Gold Grid. These trenches are around: (i) the abandoned La Patria Gold Mine, (ii) the La Esmeralda Gold Mine, and (iii) the gold anomalies in the South Area. Proposed trenches/tracks for RC drill access are shown as green lines. Abandoned mines and workings are shown as purple crosses. Tracks and roads in the area are shown as dotted purple lines. The right picture shows part of a South Area trench that is about one kilometer long. All trenches will be geochemically sampled at about five meter intervals.
Rome’s week ended 12 November 2011. Progress on Rome’s Sonora Properties: Don Luis and La Colorada-Esmeralda (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Work has stopped this week on the Don Luis Greisen-Porphyry Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property. The Atlas Copco down-the-hole-hammer broke, and replacement will take about a month because it is a special, small diameter size not stocked within Mexico. Our RC drill was moved to San Miguel de Horcasitas for maintenance, storage and watchman protection.
Bulldozer trenching and track construction started for geochemical sampling and RC drill access on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Gold Grid. Half the trenches initially planned for the Esmeralda Mine and South Zone areas have been completed. The left picture shows the geological sketch map, made by Colin Godwin and our new Junior Geologist Martin Rosendo, around the abandoned La Patria Gold Mine. Bulldozer work has started there. The underground gold mines at La Patria follow low-dipping quartz-vein faults. Low dips enhance the opportunity from vertical RC drilling that will follow the trenches/tracks marked as green lines.
Next week, bulldozer work on the Esmeralda Grid on the La Colorada Property will continue. Geochemical sampling of the trenches/tracks will begin (geochemical results will be used to optimize RC drill hole locations). Alvarez will be concentrating on updating all data and organizing sample rejects from Don Luis. Godwin is returning to Vancouver for discussions with the Board of Directors on forward moving directions for Rome.

Left picture shows the geology and proposed trenches/tracks in the vicinity of the abandoned La Patria Gold Mine that is within the La Colorada - Esmeralda Gold Grid. Proposed trenches/tracks for RC drill access around the abandoned La Patria Mine are shown as green lines. The gold mine workings are solid red where surface pits and the heavy red lines when underground mines. The underground mines follow low-dipping quartz-vein faults with multiple directions. The right picture shows a red-limonite-rich road cut that is 350 meters west of the old mojon (purple spire) near the center of the map on the left. Soils in the vicinity are anomalous in gold, and the bulldozer will cut a deeper trench along the road for geochemical sampling that will guide RC drill placement. This proposed trench cuts the western part of an anomalous gold belt that extends eastward through the La Patria Gold Mine area. Note that bulldozer trenching along existing roads speeds our exploration and also lessens the environmental impact of our work.
Rome’s week ended 05 November 2011. Progress on Rome’s La Colorada-Esmeralda and Don Luis, Sonora, Properties (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
The main focus this week was establishing the best locations for trenches/tracks for reverse circulation drill access on Rome’s La Colorada – Esmeralda Grid. To do this effectively two gold mine areas—La Patria and Esmeralda—were mapped by Godwin with the assistance of our new Junior Geologist Martin Rosendo. The resulting map with proposed trenches/tracks for drill access around the old Esmerald Mine is shown in the left picture, below. All tracks are within strong gold in soil geochemical anomalies. The geology along line E4 is particularly encouraging because of occurrences of: very red soil, intense muscovite (mica) alteration and locally abundant quartz vein stockworks. The underground gold mine at La Patria clarified the local framework structures. However, during mapping underground there we were challenged and had to back off from a very large rattlesnake! To date we have marked in the Esmeralda Grid area twelve trench/track locations for detailed geochemical sampling and follow-up drilling.
Reconnaissance reverse circulation drilling on the Central Zone of Rome’s Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property is still in progress (left picture, below). As mentioned last week the silica (quartz) cap in this zone is very hard and drilling is very slow. The Atlas Copco down-the-hole-hammer we were using developed a crack in its outer shell and the drill will be shut down for three or four days waiting for a replacement hammer.
Next week bulldozer work on the Esmeralda Grid at La Colorada is expected to begin. The bulldozer belongs to the rancher with the surface rights. Consequently, the start-time depends upon when he can mobilize his bulldozer to the property. Godwin and Alvarez will be concentrating on updating all data, writing a News Release and developing a budget for exploration expenses in Mexico.
Left pictures shows the geology and proposed trenches/tracks in the vicinity of the abandoned Esmeralda Gold Mine that is within the La Colorada - Esmeralda Grid. The right picture shows the drill on the silica peak (foreground is solid quartz) at the Central Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property; view looks south to picturesque peaks near the southern boundary of the property.
Rome’s week ended 29 October 2011. Progress on Rome’s Don Luis and La Colorada-Esmeralda, Sonora, Properties (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Reconnaissance reverse circulation drilling on the Central Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property was not completed this week as expected, mainly because the silica (quartz) cap in this zone is very hard and drilling is very slow. The water well completed in the East Zone is shown in the left picture. The rancher owning this land is very pleased! Also in this picture is Martin Rosendo, a Junior Geologist that has recently been hired.
Our new website is progressing. A modern, new replacement of our present site will be welcome.
Permission has been received from the rancher for access to La Colorada – Esmeralda Grid. The rancher also will provide a bulldozer to build access roads and shallow trenches. These trenches will be sampled and will serve as access roads for the reverse circulation drill. Three main belts of anomalous gold values were identified by soil sampling, as presented in Rome’s NEWS RELEASE #08, November 23rd 2009. The gold anomalies are reproduced in the central picture, below. The potential of the area is emphasized by abundant, abandoned gold mines and workings; some of the old prospect pits are shown in the right picture.
Next week mapping in the area of the Esmeralda Gold Mine and the La Patria Gold Mine (central picture) will aid optimization of trenching and drilling. Bulldozer work will begin.
Work on Rome’s exciting 10 km gold anomaly on the La Colorada-LCL5 Grid cannot be started until February 2012. This is because the ranchers holding the surface rights run a hunting season for mule deer and white-tailed deer from December until February.
The left pictures shows the water well established in the East Zone of Rome’s Don Luis Property. The center picture locates the three gold belts across the Rome’s La Colorada - Esmeralda Grid (abandoned gold mines, La Patria and Esmeralda, are located in the north (3) and central (2) belts, respectively). The right picture shows one of our geophysical lines near a number of old gold workings in the southern belt (1 in the central picture) on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Grid.
Rome's week ended 22 October 2011. Reverse circulation drilling on Rome’s Don Luis, Sonora, Property and new web site for Rome (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Reconnaissance reverse circulation drilling on the East Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property was completed. One water well was also established, which will aid us in future negotiations for continued surface access.
A new website is being constructed. It is almost ready for editing, but banners for the different sections have to be selected. This is not easy. Generally the banner should reflect what we do (geological exploration), place (mainly Mexico) and be eye catching. Godwin submits the pictures one to six, below, for consideration. The new web site should aid the company in future promotion, financing and keeping investors up-to-date.
Next week drilling on the Central Zone at Don Luis should be completed. Permission from the rancher for surface access to start work on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Project should be obtained given required documentation.
Pictures for possible banners in Rome’s new web site are from left to right and top to bottom: mountain view Don Luis Property, reverse circulation drilling Don Luis Property, mountain view La Colorada Property, sunrise with buzzard over La Colorada Property, sunrise over La Colorada Property, and rastras La Colorada – Esmeralda Property.
Rome’s week ended 15 October 2011. Bulldozer work and reverse circulation drilling on Rome’s Don Luis, Sonora, Property and Resource Conference presentations, Ljubljana, Slovenia (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Bulldozer trenching on the West Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property was completed. It continued trench infilling in the East Zone and this was completed by the end of the week. The bulldozer was then decommissioned. Reconnaissance drilling was continued in the East Zone of Don Luis. One reverse circulation hole was enlarged for the first 30 meters with a large diameter tricone bit (left picture, below) to serve as a water well for the ranchers. This was particularly welcomed by them because there was generally no water available in this remote part of their ranch, which limited the ability to graze cows in this area. Believe me, this was much appreciated, and will aid us in future negotiations for continued surface access.
Colin Godwin attended the 5th Resource Conference, Ljubljana, Slovenia (center picture, below). He presided over a poster display and gave a half-hour Power Point presentation that emphasized Rome’s exploration on, and potential of, the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. He also outlined the work to be undertaken by Rome on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Project, and the La Colorada – LCL-5 Project. Both of these projects seek bulk tonnage, open-pit gold mines. If anyone is interested in copies of these presentations please contact Colin Godwin directly at cigodwin@romeresources.com .
Next week drilling on the Central Zone at Don Luis should be completed. Permission from the rancher for surface access to start work on the La Colorada – Esmeralda Project will be obtained if we receive the required documents from the Mines Department in Mexico City.

Rome's week ended 08 October 2011. Relevance of some topics at the CIM World Gold Conference in Monteal to Rome's Don Luis, Sonora, Property (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Reconnaissance RC drilling resumed on the East Zone of Rome’s Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property upon receiving the “interchange” part from Canada with release from Mexican Customs last Sunday. Several bulldozer trenches were completed on the West Zone of Don Luis. Colin Godwin, supported by Godwin Consultants Ltd.—not Rome, attended the CIM World Gold Conference in Montreal where a number of presentations relevant to Don Luis were given (left picture, below). The more pertinent papers related to gravity separation (e.g., Newmont’s world-wide operations recover almost 10% of their gold by gravity processing, and gold gravity recovery has evolved tremendously with the development of enhanced gravity separation technology that can operate at more than 60 times the natural gravitational force), and heap leaching (e.g., lead is an effective accelerator of gold lixiviation in cyanide solutions, and hydrometallurgical methods are increasingly applicable to complex mineralogical situations). Gravity separation is important at Don Luis because of the value of the heavy gold, tungsten and lead minerals at the property. Heap leaching with cyanide is important because it will likely be the main method or silver and gold recovery at Don Luis.
Pina Alvarez submitted an application to the governmental environment-access-permission granting SEMARNAT for trenching and drilling on the La Colorada—Esmeralda Property (right picture, below).
Next week drilling on the East Zone at Don Luis will continue. The bulldozer should complete infilling of all the trenches on the property. It then will be decommissioned. We expect also to obtain entry permission to our La Colorada—Esmeralda Project from the rancher-owner.

Rome’s week ended 01 October 2011: Exploration at Don Luis, Sonora (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Our reverse circulation Prospector II rig is still waiting for that part from Canada called an “interchange”; the original one has cracked and has to be replaced. Customs clearance took longer than expected. We know that it has now cleared customs and is en route from Guadalajara to Hermosillo. Consequently, it will be available immediately after the week-end. Reconnaissance RC drilling then will resume on the East and Central Zones of Rome’s Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. A bulldozer is currently cutting several additional trenches on the West Zone of the Don Louis Property (left picture).
Applications to the local ranchers and the governmental environment-access-permission granting SEMARNAT to do trenching and drilling on the La Colorada—Esmeralda Property should be completed in the week coming.
Next week we will be drilling. The extra tracks/trenches for the drill on the West Zone at Don Luis should be completed. And most of the trenches over all the Don Luis Property should be backfilled. With respect to the La Colorada—Esmeralda Property, the application to SEMARNAT will be submitted—a week later than expected due to other priorities. Godwin will be in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, attending the CIM 2011 World Gold Symposium.

Rome's week ended 24 September 2011: Exploration at Don Luis & La Colorada--Esmeralda, Sonora (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Our reverse circulation Prospector II rig is waiting for a part called an “interchange”; the original one has cracked and has to be replaced. We have ordered two so we will not have this kind of down time again. The parts from Canada are currently in Guadalajara, Mexico, and we have a Customs Broker arranging to have them delivered. We should receive the parts by Tuesday. Reconnaissance drilling then will resume on the West and Central Zones of Rome’s Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. A bulldozer has been hired to fill in all trenches made on the Don Louis Property (left picture). In addition, several tracks for future drilling on the West Zone are being cut now to save the remobilization costs of bringing the bulldozer back later to do this. Buffel grass seed will be spread on the disturbed ground around the old trenches. This reseeding will aid the local ranchers in the future, and will help us immeasurably in future access negotiations with them.
We are seeking permission from several ranchers to do trenching and drilling on the La Colorada—Esmeralda Property. In the coming week an application will be submitted to the governmental environment-access-permission granting SEMARNAT; we were too busy over this last week to get this done as indicated in the note for last week. When these two items are in place we can start drilling for La Colorada—Esmeralda gold! The picture on the right, below, shows golden promise over Rome’s La Colorada Property.
Next week we will to be drilling again. The extra tracks for the drill on the West Zone at Don Luis should be completed. And most of the trenches over all the Don Luis Property should be backfilled. With respect to the La Colorada—Esmeralda Property, the application to SEMARNAT will be submitted. Godwin will be returning to Vancouver near the end of the week.
Left picture shows backfilling of trenches on the Don Luis Property. The right picture we call “Golden Sunrise Over Rome’s La Colorada Gold Property”; sunrises in the Sonora Desert tend to be spectacular because the dry desert dust picked up into the air colors well.
Rome's week ended 17 September 2011: Exploration at Don Luis & La Colorada—Esmeralda, Sonora (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
RC drilling continued on the East Zone at Don Luis. Water has been encountered in the last two holes at about 35 meters. Consequently, we are trying to set up a tricone bit reamer so that one of these holes can be modified for use as a water-well by the local ranchers. There are no wells in this valley and a water source for livestock there would be a huge asset to the ranchers—and a tremendous aid to future negotiation that Rome might have with them. We have hired a bulldozer to fill in our trenches and to construct an additional one in the West Zone. The bulldozer arrived in San Miguel on Saturday and will start work on the property next Monday.
Early in the week we obtained a letter from the President of the Municipality of La Colorada (these municipalities are large important political divisions not restricted to only the one town of La Colorada) for permission to do trenching and drilling on the La Colorada—Esmeralda Property. This letter, which was graciously granted, is a necessary part of our submission to the governmental environment-access-permission granting SEMARNAT, which will be submitted next week. The President invited us to his Annual Address and fiesta. We attended and were able to interact directly and positively with both the President and the Sub-Secretary of the Sonoran government (picture, below). I think that we were the only mining group present, and my sense is that this was an appreciated and important communication effort on our part. It could help us immeasurably in the future.
Next week we are waiting for a new part for our drill. With respect to the La Colorada—Esmeralda Property, the application to SEMARNAT will be submitted and layout of trenches will continue.

Week ended 10 September 2011: Exploration at Don Luis & La Colorada—Esmeralda, Sonora (for property overviews click Projects at www.RomeResources.com)
Reconnaissance RC drilling is advancing on the East Zone at Don Luis. Three holes have been complete as of the end of this week.
At a Chinese restaurant in Port Moody, BC, just before returning to Hermosillo, Colin Godwin got some wonderful news from the traditional end-of-meal fortune cookie. It read: "THE GLITTER OF GOLD WILL BRIGHTEN YOUR SKIES". One could read this as a hint to get moving on our exploration of Rome's key La Colorada Gold Property. On Saturday a start was made in marking trench-drill locations in the field on the Esmeralda Grid. Rome's News Release #08 of November 23rd 2011 defines three gold belts within this grid, called from north to south: La Patria Belt, Esmeralda Belt and South Belt. Location of three trenches in the Esmeralda Belt were defined in the field. We also met with local ranchers to find out land holding locations and to discuss future access. They all seemed quite helpful in allowing us to move forward with our exploration, but formal permissions must be arranged. In addition, pictures of the characteristics of the area were taken for inclusion in a governmental environment-access-permission request to SEMARNAT.
Next week reconnaissance RC drilling will continue on the East Zone at Don Luis. Formal surface access permission from local ranchers will be sought. After receiving the formal permission from the local ranchers and from the local municipality at La Colorada, permits for trenching and drilling will be requested from SEMARNAT.

Week ended 03 September 2011: Continuing Exploration at Don Luis, Sonora (for property overviews click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
The last RC hole on this round of drilling was completed on the West Zone of Don Luis at the end of this week. All holes are up to 100 meters deep. All holes are in oxidized cap rock that contains. silver and gold that is expected to be heap-leachable. About 6,000 meters have been drilled and sampled at 1.5 meter intervals. Results from the first 29 holes have been reported (News Release #08 August 10th 2011). Analyses from subsequent holes are in progress. The first row of pictures, below shows some highlights of the Don Luis program. The second row of pictures, illustrates the beauty of the Sonora Desert at Don Luis during the hot but wet summer.
Next week reconnaissance RC drilling will begin on the East and Central Zones at Don Luis.

Week ended 27 August 2011: Continuing Exploration in Sonora (for property overviews click Projects > Don Luis & La Colorada at www.RomeResources.com)
A visit was made this week to Rome's La Colorada Property that surrounds the well-known La Colorada Gold Mine that is being reactivated by Argonaut Mining Inc. Rome's next project in this area will be the La Colorada - Esmeralda Project because this area has three defined gold belts with drill-ready gold targets identified by numerous old workings (right picture, below), detailed soil geochemical gold anomalies, geological mapping and geophysics (News Release #8 Nov. 23, 2009). However, tracks to facilitate the placement of the drill must be made with a bulldozer. To do this work Rome needs: (i) field identification of the best drill sites, (ii) approval of access from owners with the surface rights, and (iii) SEMARNAT government environmental approval for access roads, bulldozer tracks and drilling.
The picture to the left of this page and at the left and center, below, shows some differences encountered in rotary holes on the West Zone of Rome's Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. All drilling is in oxidized cap rock. Black manganese rich sections are rich in silver. Red hematite-jarosite cap generally has more gold than silver—especially where quartz veining occurs. The silver and gold is expected to be heap-leachable.
Next week Godwin will be working from Vancouver. Alvarez will maintain organization of all activities out of Hermosillo, Mexico.
Picture at left side of page and above, shows chips from two RC drill holes. The hole at the left is red-limonite rich in hematite-jarosite limonite from top to bottom; it will carry gold but silver values will be low. The hole on the right is black manganese-oxide rich; the dark manganese zone is silver rich. (See detail in the central two pictures.) The samples in the left-central picture have abundant red hematite-jarosite limonite. The chip samples in the right-center picture are rich in black, manganese oxide and will run about 30 gpt (about 1 oz/t) silver. The right picture shows part of an ancient gold plant on Rome's La Colorada - Esmeralda Property.
Week ended 20 August 2011: Continuing Exploration at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Follow-up drilling at the Don Luis Property, Sonora, Mexico, is extending the area around the important West Zone silver values reported last week (also News Release #8, Aug. 11, 2011). The last hole for example (DLS11RC062) looks good because the cuttings from the hole are black, indicating silver-rich manganese. The rods got stuck when pulling out of the hole late Thursday. The part of the drill that pulls the rods up and down split and jammed in the mast. It took Friday to take it apart, as shown in the left photo, below. It has been repaired by some great mechanics in Hermosillo; by Saturday the drill was back together and operating well. The rods will be pulled on Monday. There are two more planned holes on the West Zone and then the drilling will move to the East Zone (News Release #1, Jan, 13, 2011) and Central Zone (News Release #5, Apr. 26, 2011) where a total of 18 reconnaissance holes have been spotted in excellent anomalies defined by detailed geology, geophysics, geochemistry and trenching. This preliminary drilling should be completed on the Don Luis Property by the end of September.
Rome takes environmental issues seriously. Before the drill leaves the Don Luis Property, all trenches will be filled in. Most of the trenches in the West Zone already have been backfilled and seeded with buffal grass. The picture below and on the right shows the successful sprouting of this grass—prized by the ranchers because it provides excellent feed for cattle.
After Don Luis the drill will move to Rome's La Colorada Gold Concessions. Consequently, attention next week will be focused on the Esmeralda Gold Area that is about three kilometers north of the being redeveloped La Colorada Gold Mine. Esmeralda has drill-ready gold targets defined by detailed soil geochemical gold anomalies, geological mapping and geophysics (News Release #8 Nov. 23, 2009). However, tracks to facilitate the placement of the drill must be made. To do this work Rome needs: (i) field identification of the best drill sites, (ii) approval of access from owners with the surface rights, and (iii) SEMARNAT government environmental approval for the tracks and drilling.
Left picture shows Roma's RC drill rig in a sad, taken apart condition at hole DLS11RC062. Right picture shows inscribed concrete drill hole cover and surrounding growth of recently seeded buffal grass.
Week ended 13 August 2011: Continuing Exploration at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
The new drill crew is drilling the last set of holes proposed for this stage of RC drilling on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property (left picture, below). These holes are follow-up around holes that returned very good silver values. Two of these holes are: DLS11RC014 (100.5 meters of 30 gpt silver) and DLS11RC015 (100.5 meters of 20 gpt silver). Both these holes are 102.0 meters long; consequently both holes are strongly mineralized with silver over their entire length! Details of results for silver, gold, molybdenum, gold and lead are available in Rome's New Release #08, released on August 10th. Significant average grades for all the holes support the goal of turning the West Zone into a bulk-tonnage open pit silver and gold mine.
This week saw renewed active logging of the chip boards from the RC drilling and installation of a new analyst for our Niton XRF instrument (right picture). Catch-up of the former will help in the interpretation of metal distribution in the West Zone. XRF analyzes of drill hole sample pulps for tungsten, molybdenum and lead are important because these valuable elements add significant dollar value to the West Zone mineralization.
Over the next week the drilling on the West Zone probably will be completed. Reconnaissance drill site locations will be established on the East Zone and Central Zone.
Left picture shows one of the last holes to be drilled on the West Zone of Don Luis Property. This drilling follows up on earlier holes with rich silver values. The right picture shows our Niton XRF analytical instrument back on stream with a new analyst. Analyses for tungsten, molybdenum and lead with this instrument are important because these valuable elements add significant dollar value to the West Zone mineralization.
Week ended 06 August 2011: Continuing Exploration at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
There has been a lapse in Rome's Weekly Reports due to reorganization of our Mexican operations. We now have a new drill crew working with our Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill (left photo below). Drilling costs have been cut by: (i) using one company 4-wheel drive vehicle instead of renting three vehicles, (ii) reducing the drill crew with supervisor from six persons to four, and (iii) eliminating time-consuming provision of meals to the crew. In addition as before, we hire a watchman to guard the drill during the night and holidays. The new crew has had some start-up learning, so the rate of drilling has been a little slower. However, we have now completed 59 holes. Some of the latest holes have been shorter at about 50 meters to give the new crew training experience before returning to the usual 100 meter target depth. Logging of the chip boards also has fallen behind. In the coming weeks this geological control will be brought up-to-date. Sample pulps have not been analyzed with our Niton XRF instrument, but a new analyst will start next week. Analysis with this instrument for tungsten, molybdenum and lead is important because these valuable elements add significant dollar value to the West Zone mineralization.
All drilling and analysis, above, is still on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. Currently, the first 29 RC drill holes are being analyzed carefully to evaluate potentially economic mineralization. The results of this analysis will be released in a News Release soon.
Sonoran Desert summer is marked by thunder storms that bring needed water and a break from drought—the cow in the right photo just did not make it by about a week! But it is hot working in the desert at this time. Drilling next week will involve holes placed around drill holes with particularly interesting values in gold and silver. The objective, of course, is to see if higher grade sections in the West Zone can be identified and expanded.
Left picture shows the new drill crew on the Don Luis Property.: The cow on the right was a casualty of the dry season. Thunder storms now bring needed rain. But the temperatures are commonly 44 to 50+ degrees centigrade, making exploration difficult at times.
Week ended 11 June 2011: Continuing Exploration at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Road building for drill access to the Central Zone, and RC drilling at about 100 meters a day in the West Zone (we are currently on hole DLS11RC040) on Rome's Don Luis Property was the focus this week. The temperature in the field is climbing to about 40 degrees Celsius and we plan to switch to drilling during the night when it is cooler in the Sonora Desert. For this we will need to buy a portable generator and some flood lights.
The first, left picture below, shows the road building on the Central Zone. The picture to the right shows how dusty the drill site on the Western Zone can become—especially if there is no breeze or the breeze is blowing in an awkward direction. Dust masks are worn at all times.
The bottom picture gives an idea of how a RC hole is started. This picture shows a casing bit (left) that is driven by an air hammer (center). The bit when in operation and in clockwise rotation is larger than the diameter of the casing (not shown), but can be rotated counter-clockwise to a smaller size so it can be withdrawn upward inside the casing after it has been successfully installed or set. Chips from the hammer are blown around the hammer and into the slots marked "interchange". Thus, sampling can start at the top of a hole.
Work next week will continue the same program as outlined above. We should soon have additional assay results that will be merged with geology from the chip logs.
Clockwise at Rome's Don Luis Property: (i) road building at Central Zone, (ii) dusty RC drilling on the Western Zone, and (iii) casing bit on down-the-hole air-hammer with sample interchange above the hammer.
Week ended 04 June 2011: Reverse Circulation Drilling Chip Logs at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome, while continuing to grid-drill the Don Luis Property in Sonora, Mexico, at about 100 meters per day is systematically logging chips from the drilling and analyzing the samples. The methodology is shown below. The upper picture shows the hand-written geological description filled from looking at the chip-board samples under a binocular microscope. Descriptions include: rock type, alteration mineral assemblages (mica, quartz, etc.) and identification of the heavy panned concentrate for the presence of wolframite—and native gold and silver in a number of intervals! The geological description is then entered into a computer file to be merged with assay information and plotted with the Discover Module of MapInfo.
The lower picture shows the chip-boards for the interval (22.5 to 25.5 meters) and illustrates the preferential association of silver with black manganese-rich sections (24.0 to 25.5 m) where silver (aAg) is 32.0 grams per tonne; compared to reddish hematitic limonite-rich sections where silver (aAg) is only 5.0 grams per tonne. Gold (aAu) is associated with vein quartz in these intervals. Molybdenum (fMo) and tungsten values (fW) are also shown. (Prefix "a" refer to analyses by Pioneer Laboratories in Richmond, BC; the prefix "f" refers to analysis by in-house X-Ray fluorescence.)
Columns are: (1) from-to meters & asy no, (2) assay results clockwise: Ag, Au, W, Mo, (3) total chips, (4) coarse-only washed chips, and (5) panned sample. Samples are fixed on painted board with white glue.
Week ended 28 May 2011: Completed and Proposed Reverse Circulation Holes on the West Zone at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Targets at Don Luis are large open-pit mines for low grade silver, gold and tungsten in three Zones: West, Central and Eastern. Results from the first six reverse circulation (RC) holes were published this week in "News Release #06: May 24th 2011. Results for First Six Holes of Reverse Circulation Drilling on the West Zone of Rome's Don Luis Property, Sonora, Mexico." Silver and gold (see Appendix of the News Release #06 for details) highlights are: • Silver, using a cut-off of 6 grams per tonne (gpt), yielded 342 meters averaging 12.3 gpt; the maximum value encountered was 55 gpt. Good intersections include holes DLS11RC001 and 003 that intersected 63.0 meters of 15.0 gpt and 81.0 meters of 12.9 gpt silver, respectively. • Gold, using a cut-off of 0.05 gpt, yielded 223.5 meters averaging 0.174 gpt. The maximum value encountered was 6.12 gpt. Hole DLS11RC004 intersected 43.5 meters of 0.278 gpt gold.
About one hole per day, each about 100 meters deep, is being drilled mainly in greisen, which is very broken, porous, and consequently, difficult to drill. RC holes drilled recently (black dots) and proposed in the near future (black crosses) are shown on the map, below, superimposed on a grid of potential holes (red dots) with sizes that reflect relative geological, geophysical and chemical significance.
Drilling continues for the next few weeks on the West Zone. During this time the proposed black cross localities will be systematically drilled.
Proposed reverse circulation holes in the West Zone of Don Luis are red dots (larger sizes indicate better localities). Black dots mark the 26 vertical RC holes (each ~100 m deep) drilled to date. The next 30 drill holes to be drilled are shown by black crosses. Trenches are marked by hash lines. Tracks are purple.
Week ended 21 May 2011: Reverse Circulation Drilling Results and Reclamation Seeding of Trenches at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > www.RomeResources.com)
Rome received the assay results this week from Pioneer Laboratories Inc., Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, for silver and gold from the first six reverse circulation (RC) drill holes on the West Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property. Results are being analyzed and will be published in a News Release next week. However, it is appropriate to note that higher silver results are generally concentrated within black, manganese-rich zones rather than red-limonitic zones. This becomes clear when results are posted on our chip boards (see report: Week Ended 23 April 2011). Last Friday we finished drilling hole DLS11RC023. This 23rd hole, like all of our previous ones, is about 100 meters deep.
Environmental sensitivity is an important concern to everyone, and certainly to exploration companies. On the Don Luis Property, we are systematically backfilling the trenches that we dug for surface sampling. These backfilled trenches can then serve as roads along which we might put a line of RC holes, thus saving the construction of additional tracks with the inherent removal of trees and shrubs. Of course, some additional tracks are required, but we try to minimize our impact on the land surface where possible. In addition, we are seeding the backfilled trenches with "buffel" grass seed which grows into nutritious and long lasting cattle feed (see the two pictures below). We are not required to do this. But it is good practice. The 120 kilograms of seed needed for all our trench backfill only cost us about CAN$650. The local farmers who have the surface rights to this area are very pleased—as will be the land-surface-supervising Federal Government agency, SEMARNAT.
Work next week will continue with RC drilling and sampling of the West Zone at Don Luis. The next batch of assay results from our RC drilling should be received the week after next.
Picture on the left is "buffel" grass seed. The right photo shows this seed being hand sown on a back-filled trench. In the wet season the buffal grass will grow about a meter high and will retain its nutrition throughout much of the dry period—for this reason it is highly prized by local cattle ranchers. Note the extensive trenches, yet to be backfilled, in the background.
Week ended 14 May 2011: Director Visit and Reverse Circulation Drilling at Don Luis (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome Director Reiner Specht, an accountant, visited Hermosillo, Sonora, this week. The main objective of his visit was to coordinate accounting procedures between Mexico and Canada. The Mexican accounts are maintained meticulously with invoices rigorously presented to Hacienda, the Mexican Government. The challenge is to transfer the Mexican information efficiently. Reiner also took the opportunity to examine our reverse circulation drilling on the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property. He also had field overviews at Rome's Don Luis and La Colorada Gold Properties. The left picture, below, shows Reiner with our Mexican Manager, Jesus Bojorquez, at the mojon (legal monument) for Rome's La Colorada Property.
Drilling is currently on hole DLS11RC019 at Don Luis. The right picture shows an overview of our reverse circulation drilling and sampling team at this locality.
Views from our Don Luis Property toward the north are punctuated by a spire called Picacho de Rayon (see panorama, below). This peak is central to Rome's Alberto Property which is characterized by abundant old gold and silver workings. Exploration of this area is in progress.
Work next week will continue with reverse circulation (RC) drilling and sampling of the West Zone at Don Luis. Assay results from our first drilling should be received next week.
From left to right: mojon (concession monument) at the La Colorada Property, drilling on the West Zone at the Don Luis Property, and panorama looking north from the West Zone at the Don Luis Property.
Week ended 07 May 2011: Reverse Circulation Drilling and Visitors to our Don Luis Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Our drillers now have uniforms with fluorescent safety-bands and Rome's logo (see left picture, below). They are proud of their new uniforms, but personally I think the dark color of the uniforms might be a bit hot a little later on in the Sonora Desert summer where it is commonly 44 to 48 degrees centigrade during the day! Presently our drillers are consistently completing about one 100 meter hole every day in about eight hours—so the drilling is going extremely well on our Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property in Sonora, Mexico.
The Don Luis Property was visited by two more groups of students (right picture) who take courses in Exploration and Evaluation of Mineral Deposits, Stratigraphic Geology, Engineering in Geosciences, etc., from Centro Estudios Superiores del Estado de Sonora (CESUES). Thirty visited on Thursday and 20, the most senior group, arrived on Friday. They all, with their professors and explanations from our Exploration Manager Jesus Bojorquez, reviewed our drilling program and examined the field geology in the West, Central and Eastern Zones. The students are enthusiastic and the public relations generated by their visits are very positive.
Work next week will continue with reverse circulation (RC) drilling and sampling of the West Zone at Don Luis. Drill results should start to be available from Pioneer Laboratories Inc., of Richmond, BC, Canada, in about two weeks.
The left picture shows the drillers on the West Zone of our Don Luis Property with their new, safety enhanced coveralls that sport the Rome logo. They have been consistently drilling 100 meters in an eight hour shift with our Prospector II Reverse Circulation drill rig. The right picture shows a visiting group of geology and mining technology students around our drill-service-workshop-trailer—great public relations!
Week ended 30 April 2011: Reverse Circulation Drilling with Rome's New Prospector II Drill on the Don Luis Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome's Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill (see left picture, below) by the end of this week has drilled ten holes totalling about 900 meters on our Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property in Sonora, Mexico. We obtain nearly a full bucket of sample-cuttings every 1.5 meters if we get full recovery. Sample recovery is generally very good, but occasionally drops to as low as 50% due mainly to locally very porous rock. The smaller sample, nevertheless, is still likely representative of the overall interval. The bucket of sample from the cyclone is then split in a stacked riffle splitter (right picture). This split is then sent to a local laboratory for fine grinding to an assay pulp. This pulp is analyzed by X-Ray fluorescence in our Hermosillo office. In addition, a split of this assay pulp also is sent for certified analysis of silver and gold to Pioneer Laboratories Inc. in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. All assay pulp splits for holes one to six (DLS11RC001 to 006) were submitted to Pioneer on Saturday 30th of April. Analysis turnaround is generally in the order of three weeks. Consequently, a stream of results should soon become available.
The property was visited by a group of about 40 students from Centro Estudios Superiores del Estado de Sonora (CESUES). They were keenly interested in the drilling, geology and the overall methodology of our work at Don Luis.
Work next week will continue with reverse circulation (RC) drilling and sampling of the West Zone at Don Luis. All past drill core samples and left-over assay pulps are being moved to, and stored in, the shipping container that the Prospector II was shipped in.
The left picture shows the Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill in operation on hole DLS11RC009 on the West Zone at Rome's Don Luis Property, Sonora, Mexico. Note the conical cyclone sample collector on the left side of the drill. The sample collected below the cyclone is reduced in size with the riffle splitter shown in the picture on the right.
Week ended 23 April 2011: Geology from Reverse Circulation Chips from Rome's New Prospector II Drill on the Don Luis Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome's Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill, now operational on our Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property, drilled about 750 meters in eight holes during training of our Mexican operators this week. Drilling has been difficult, as it was in diamond drilling last year, but this has certainly jump-started our trainees with a lot of important experiences.
We are sampling every 1.5 meters, and consequently, we have a lot of drill-hole geology to evaluate so that assay information can be interpreted better. Normally chip trays are used to store a representative geological record. But a better method is to use chip boards (see pictures below). These plywood boards represent each sample by white-gluing in boxes, two centimeter deep by three centimeter wide, three in a row each sample as follows: (i) a representative chip sample as it came out of the drill, (ii) the coarse chip fraction [particularly helpful for geology], and (ii) a panned concentrate [scheelite can be readily identified in this by short wave UV-light]. The procedure of making these chip boards are outlined in the four pictures below.
Work next week will continue with reverse circulation (RC) drilling and sampling of the West Zone. This sampling is important at Don Luis because our silver results from diamond drilling (News Release #10: May 28th 2010), are thought to be low. Definition of prioritized drill site locations on the Central Zone from past trenching and sampling will be released as a News Release next week.
The picture sequence shows, clockwise: (i) wet screening into a small gold pan a geochem bag sized sample of drill chips, (ii) panning of the screened fine-fraction to a "white tail", (iii) mounting of the different samples with the aid of a metal-box guide, and (iv) the resulting chip board. The chip board in the right picture shows, from left to right: (i) assay sample number and depth at bottom of the 1.5m interval, (ii) a blank box for entry of assay results, (iii) representative chips from the sample interval, (iv) coarse chips from the sample interval, and (v) the panned concentrate from the sample interval. The boxes around the samples are two centimeters high by three centimeters long. The width of all the samples is narrow enough to be viewed with a binocular microscope. The coarse sample significantly aids geological description [in the chip board on the right, coarse-chip row, abundant vein quartz is prominent]. The panned concentrate aids identification of oxides versus sulphides [all oxides here] and heavy minerals such as the tungsten mineral scheelite [fluoresces in short wave UV-light].
Week ended 16 April 2011: Our Brand New Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is Now Drilling on Rome's Don Luis Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome's Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is now operational on our Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Property in Sonora, Mexico. Training of Mexican operators is in full swing. This start-up is being announced formally in News Release #04 on Tuesday 19th, which will be released at the same time as this weekly report. The News Release is titled "Rome's Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill Will Accelerate Evaluation of Rome's Extensive Properties". This reverse circulation drilling is particularly important at Don Luis because our silver results from diamond drilling, while very encouraging (News Release #10: May 28th 2010), are thought to be low because of poor core recovery in our preliminary diamond drilling campaign. The larger sample size, more complete and more representative sample from reverse circulation drilling is expected to yield higher silver values. We are looking for a bulk tonnage, open pit silver mine.
Acquisition of this drill is considered critical to evaluation, not only for Don Luis, but also for the extensive and highly prospective suite of silver, gold and copper properties held by Rome in Mexico. Advantages of having our own drill are outlined in the News Release, which you can access from our website at www.romeresources.com (click "What's New" or go to SEDAR for official News Releases).
Work next week will continue to concentrate on the training of our personnel to run the drill. During this time important samples will be obtained. Definition of prioritized drill site locations on the Central Zone from past trenching and sampling is still in progress.
The left picture shows our Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill drilling the first hole on the Don Luis Property (DLS11RC001). The right picture illustrates how the drill deck lifts to level the drill, which minimizes the environmental disturbance at a drill site; normally large level platforms must be bulldozed before drilling. Movement on tracks also assists in decreasing disruptions.
Week ended 09 April 2011: Alberto and Don Luis Properties, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome's regional exploration this week on the Alberto Property, about 20 kilometers north of the Don Luis Property, involved follow-up examinations of selected areas. An especially interesting zone is marked by old gold workings in Paleozoic quartzite. Although there is abundant quartz veining over a large area around the old workings, the workings themselves are concentrated along several quartzite beds that are not obviously directly associated with the quartz veins. Secondary antimony with limonite was commonly associated with these workings. It is intriguing that the lack of direct association with quartz veins, the stratigraphic control and the antimony signature might indicate a "Carlin" or disseminated-gold-replacement type origin for this particular area of gold mineralization. In terms of "address" these old workings are less than two kilometers south of Cerro de Oro, a past producing and significant gold-silver mine hosted by intrusive quartz porphyry. Although Cerro de Oro is inactive, it is still held by Penoles.
The Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is now in Mexico. Mexican customs checked all parts, which required removing the drill from the shipping container (left picture, below). The trainer and mechanic from Multi-Power Products Ltd. of Kelowna, British Columbia, are now here in Sonora. The right picture shows the drill being assembled on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. The most difficult task was the mounting of the very heavy mast. This required lifting the mast into position with a backhoe.
Work next week will concentrate on the training of our personnel to run the drill, collect samples, mount chip boards, etc. Definition of prioritized drill site locations on the Central Zone from past trenching and sampling, although expected to be completed this week, is still in progress.
The left picture shows our Prospector II drill being unloaded from its shipping container so that all accessory parts can be checked by Mexican Customs at the Nogales border crossing. The right picture shows our drill being assembled on the West Zone of our Don Luis Property. The most difficult task was the mounting of the very heavy mast. This required lifting the mast with the backhoe to the right of the drill.
Week ended 02 April 2011: Alberto and Don Luis Properties, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome is continuing regional exploration of the Alberto Property, which is about 20 kilometers north of the Don Luis Property. Abundant old workings in quartz-veined and brecciated Paleozoic quartzite with limestone horizons have been located. Some of the mineralization and workings are shown in the left and central pictures, below. Systematic soil geochemical lines and prospecting in areas with a high density of old workings is continuing.
The Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill has arrived in Nogales, Arizona. Mexican customs need to check all parts and this requires unpacking the drill in the shipping container. This will happen Tuesday afternoon with the drill then trucked to the Don Luis Property on Wednesday. Trainers and mechanics from Multi-Power Products Ltd. will be on hand to help unpack the drill and start the training of our drillers.
You might have noticed Rome's News Release #3: March 29th 2011 "Rome's Don Luis Greisen-Porphyry Silver-Tungsten Property has a Great Address as Part of the "Great Cluster" of Laramide Porphyry Copper-Molybdenum Deposits in Arizona, New Mexico and Sonora". This release notes the significance of the 76.7 Ma date from zircons in greisen on the Don Luis Porperty, which confirms—based on deposit type, age and location—the great address of Rome's Don Luis Property (right picture).
Work next week will concentrate on the Don Luis Property. This will involve getting our Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill up and running, and training our personnel to run the drill, collect chip samples, etc. In addition we will be defining prioritized drill site location on the Central Zone from past trenching and sampling. This will be presented in a News Release.
The left and central pictures show old mining areas hosted by quartz-vein-rich quartzite and quartzite breccia on the Alberto Property. The right map locates the Don Luis Property within the "Great Cluster" of porphyry copper deposits (blue) that occur in Arizona, New Mexico and Sonora (Rome's News Release #3).
Week ended 26 March 2011: Don Luis Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome has completed the road building, trench geology, trench sampling, and Niton X-Ray fluorescence analyses of the trench samples for the East, Central and West Zones on the Don Luis Property. With this data News Releases have been made that define where reverse circulation holes should be drilled on the East Zone (News Release #1, January 13th 2011: Proposed Reverse Circulation Drilling on East Zone, Based on Trench Analyses, Don Luis Property, Sonora, Mexico) and on the West Zone (News Release #2, March 23rd 2011: Proposed Reverse Circulation Drilling on West Zone, Based Mainly on Trench Analyses, Don Luis Property, Sonora, Mexico). The summary figures from these News Releases that locate these holes are shown in the two maps below, however, the reader should refer directly to the News Releases for details. The proposed holes for the Central Zone will be published as a News Release in about ten days from now.
The Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is completely assembled in Kelowna, B.C. and is "in the can" ["can" is the standard shipping container it is shipped in] with a full quota of drill rods, bits, down-the-hole hammers, filters, wrenches and other spare parts. It should be on a truck en route through the United States to Nogales, Arizona, by the beginning of next week. Importation into Mexico from this border town is expected to be straight forward because the Canada-Mexico NAFTA agreement provides for entry of new, Canadian manufactured machinery with only payment of IVA tax to Mexico.
Work next week will concentrate on regional geochemical grid sampling on our Alberto Concession, which is adjacent to but north of the Don Luis Property. Arrival of our new state-of-the art Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is expected by week end.
Left map: Proposed reverse circulation drill grid for the Don Luis East Zone (83 holes: Rome News Release #2). Right map: Proposed reverse circulation drill grid for the Don Luis West Zone (275 holes: Rome News Release #3). Holes are spaced at 50 meter intervals in both figures.
Week ended 19 March 2011: Last Week at the Prospectors' and Developers' Conference (PDAC) in Toronto, Ontario (for additional information on Rome please visit www.RomeResources.com)
Last week Colin Godwin, President and Director of Rome, and Jesus Bojorquez, Mexican Manager of Rome, were at the Prospectors' and Developers' Conference (PDAC) in Toronto, Ontario. We had a number of excellent meetings with some of our major investors.
We also visited the booth of Multi-Power Products Ltd. (Left Picture, below). We have a firm commitment that our state-of-the-art Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill will be trucked in a container from Kelowna, BC, by the 18th of March. It should arrive three days later at the USA-Mexico border at Nogales, Arizona, After clearing customs (estimated one day) it will be trucked to the Don Luis Property (another day). Training of our drillers is being organized to follow arrival of the drill. Thus¸ our drill should be operational near the end of March.
The PDAC, as most of you will know, is a huge event. The capsule that saved the Chilean miners was featured at the entrance (Right Picture). Some of the booths were particularly applicable to our exploration of the Don Luis Property. These included: use of field-portable X-Ray fluorescence analytical units, recovery using hydometallurgy for oxide silver-molybdenum-copper, and application of magnetotelluric surveys for discovery of enriched copper zones.
During last week all trench sample analyzes from the Central Zone of the Don Luis Property were completed in our Hermosillo office with our Niton X-Ray fluorescence unit. With this information News Releases will be forthcoming shortly on reverse circulation targets on the West Zone and on the Central Zone.
This week, and next week, will see systematic regional gridding and geochemical sampling on the Alberto Property. This concession is contiguous with, and north of, the Don Luis Property.
Left Picture shows the booth of Multi-Power Products Ltd. The owner of Multi-Power is on the left side of the central poster of the Prospector II drill that we are buying; Colin Godwin is on the right side. The Right Picture shows the capsule that recently saved the Chilean miners.
Week ended 05 March 2011: Don Luis Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome has completed the road building and trench sampling in the Central Zone on the Don Luis Property. One of the trenches cut a particularly interesting black-manganese-rich greisen zone that was originally sulphide rich, based on the red-hematitic limonite encountered (Left Picture, below). Some drill pads also were prepared (Central and Right Pictures). These sites will be drilled with our Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill that will shortly be on site. Additional holes will be located by analysis of data from the regional and trench sampling programs.
The Niton X-Ray fluorescence analyses of the trench samples from the West Zone at Don Luis were completed on Friday. We are now in a position to fine-tune the priority locations of reverse circulation drill holes in this zone. The priority locations of these holes will be released soon, as a News Release similar to News Release #1, January 13th,"Proposed Reverse Circulation Drilling on East Zone Based on Trench Analyses, Don Luis Property, Sonora, Mexico".
The Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is completely assembled in Kelowna, B.C. It is undergoing operational testing prior to shipment to Nogales in Arizona. Delivery to Arizona, provided the testing goes without a hitch, will be on the 10th of this month. Importation into Mexico is expected to be straight forward because the Canada-Mexico NAFTA agreement provides for entry of new, Canadian manufactured machinery with only payment of IVA tax.
Work next week will continue with Niton X-Ray fluorescence analysis of trench samples on the Central Zone. Godwin and Bojorquez will be at the Prospectors' and Developers' Conference in Toronto (PDAC) where they will be attending critical conferences with financiers of, and investors in, Rome. Timing for the training of our drillers on the new, state-of-the-art Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is being organized to quickly follow the PDAC.
There will be no Weekly Report from us next week because of our PDAC commitments.
Left Picture is of a trench/road that cuts across a black-manganese rich greisen-alteration zone in the Central Zone at Don Luis. Red limonite, visible in the trench/road cut, indicates former presence of sulphides. Central and Right Pictures show two drill pads established on greisen-alteration near the hill crest of the Central Zone. The Right Picture also shows intense limonite after sulphide and a knob of intense silicification that also is marked by abundant "Brain Rock" (UST texture). Note that the drill pads are not very large and are not particularly flat. However, these are adequate for our highly mobile and compact Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill.
Week ended 26 February 2011: Don Luis Property & Alberto Concession, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome over the week continued on the Don Luis Property. These activities follow those previously reported in our weekly reports, so we will not elaborate on them this week.
Jesus Bojorquez, our Exploration Manager in Mexico, continued preliminary evaluation of our Alberto Concession (#3 in Left Picture, below) to help define future, more systematic exploration (see also report for "Week ended 02 February 2011"). This field work concentrated on our ground that surrounds the Cerro de Oro gold-copper property (black hatched area centered in the northern part of #3), which is held by Penoles. A number of interesting showings were encountered, including copper-limonite mineralization in quartzite and quartz stockwork that was found. An example of this mineralization is shown in the Right Picture.
Trenching and sampling will continue on the Central Zone of our Don Luis Property. The Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is still scheduled for delivery at the end of this month. Timing for training of our drillers is being organized for immediately after the Prospectors' and Developers' Conference (PDAC) at Toronto in early March.
Left Picture shows in purple the contiguous concessions held by Rome around its Don Luis Property (#1). The Alberto Concession is number #3. Current evaluation of this property is mainly around the black hatched area centered in the northern part of #3. This black hatched area, held by Penoles, is their Cerro de Oro gold-copper property. Week ended 19 February 2011: Don Luis Property & Alberto Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Rome has almost completed trench sampling of the West Zone on the Don Luis Property. The tremendous amount of work involved in this sampling is emphasized in the Left Picture, below, which shows the way we prepare our two-meter sample intervals where bedrock is cut in the trenches. Every plastic sample bag on the left side of the trench marks a sample site in the trench.
Road building has advanced on the Central Zone. The road providing access to this area is shown in the Central Picture. This picture also emphasizes the huge size of this zone, because greisen favourable for mineralization extends from the left side to the right side of this photo where there is an old World War II tungsten mine just below the peak. The Right Picture shows one of the significantly red zones (limonite after sulphides) intersected by this road at the top of the ridge.
Further reconnaissance has been conducted on the Alberto Property (contiguous with and north of the Don Luis Property). The area being prospected, 30 to 50 kilometers north of Don Luis, is marked by numerous old adits and shafts (see report: Week Ended 5 February 2011) that have not been evaluated by modern exploration techniques. This area looks highly prospective and will be systematically explored in the near future.
Work next week will finish the field component of sampling on the West Zone, and sampling will begin in earnest on the Central Zone of our Don Luis Property. The Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill is currently scheduled for delivery at the end of this month. Timing for training of our drillers is being organized around the Prospectors' and Developers' Conference (PDAC) in Toronto that is held in early March.
Left Picture shows sample layout on one of the long trenches in the western part of the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. Sample bags along the left side of this trench show our layout before sampling. Each bag marks a two meter sample interval. All bedrock cut by our trenches is sampled at two meter intervals for systematic analysis with our Niton X-Ray Fluorescence analyzer at our office in Hermosillo. Central Picture shows the new road (left-center) providing access to the tungsten-anomalous Central Zone (the highest point of the Central Zone is the peak on the right of this picture that is quartz-hematite breccia with abundant "brain rock" and an old tungsten mine)—all of the area from the hill to the left of the track to the right hand side of the photo is mainly greisen and is highly prospective. The Right Picture shows one of the significantly red zones (limonite after sulphides) intersected in this road at the top of the ridge (center of picture between the two peaks).
Week ended 12 February 2011: Don Luis Property, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome over the last week continued mainly on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. One of the final trenches in our current program on the West Zone is Trench #10, which is located southeast of diamond drill hole DD10DLS07. This trench, shown in the left picture below, is markedly red and encountered several small, old, tungsten workings. Thus, we have almost completed the trenching, sampling and analyzes (by Niton X-Ray fluorescence) in our current program on the West Zone. Within several weeks all current surface samples and analyzes for this zone should be completed. Evaluation of this data will result in a News Release defining priority locations for reverse circulation drill holes in this West Zone. We know already from our first diamond drilling program early in 2010 that reverse circulation drill holes will be started in the vicinity of DD10DLS01 & 02 because of the significant silver values encountered in these diamond drill holes (NEWS RELEASE #10: JUNE 1ST 2010). Results from the reverse circulation drilling are expected to be higher and more accurate than those from the diamond drilling.
Road access into the Central Zone at Don Luis was also started this week (right picture). In addition, preliminary trench locations were established. The terrain is generally steep. This area of greisen has zones of quartz-rich rock with abundant "brain rock" (UST texture). This zone also hosts several old tungsten mines and yielded good values in tungsten from bulk panel and grab samples.
Next week, work should finish on the West Zone and begin in earnest on the Central Zone of the Don Luis Property. We also expect to have some definitive information on the early arrival of our state-of-the-art Prospector II reverse circulation drill.
Pictures are from the Don Luis Property. The left picture is Trench #10 on the West Zone; this is one of the final trenches to be cut in our current surface sampling program. The right picture is of the Central Zone in the vicinity of diamond drill hole DD10DLS09 that was drilled early this year. The spires are quartz and "brain rock" rich, and host several small, historic, tungsten mines. Roads are under construction to facilitate trenching of this greisen-rich area.
Week ended 02 February 2011: Alberto and Don Luis Properties, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis at www.RomeResources.com)
This week Rome continued trenching, sampling and analyzes on the Western Zone of the Don Luis Property. This program is providing valuable information that will be used to optimize the locations of drill holes to be drilled with our Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill. This drill will be acquired very soon.
Some attention this week was given to examination of Rome's Alberto Concession. This large concession is contiguous with, but north of, the Don Luis Property. Evaluation started with visits to old workings within it that included the: (i) Los Dikes Mine, (ii) Alegato Mine, and (ii) Julieta Mine. The Los Dikes Mine [left picture below] is characterized by copper-bearing breccia in volcanics and quartzite. Limestone hosting said-to-be silver-rich mineralization occurs at the Alegato Mine [central picture]. There are several adits in quartz-stockwork in quartzite that apparently were following gold mineralization in the Julieta Mine area [right pictures]. Samples from these working are being analyzed with our Niton X-Ray Fluorescence analyzer. The results will help design regional exploration and evaluation of this large concession. The Alberto Concession has significant potential for a variety of commodities—as indicated by the variety in these showings.
Work next week will continue on the West Zone and will begin on the Central Zone of our Don Luis Property. Details for importation of our Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill are being attended to.
All pictures are from small mines in Rome's Alberto Concession, which is contiguous with, and north of, our Don Louis Property. Left picture shows copper-stained and brecciated quartzite at the Los Dikes Mine. The central picture is of the Alegato Mine, which is said to have explored for silver-rich mineralization within limestone. The right picture shows one of several adits at the Julieta Mine that explored quartz-stockwork mineralization for gold.
Week ended 29 January 2011: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
This week Rome continued trenching on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. In the report last week we showed how the lines to be trenched were prepared with the bulldozer for back-hoe trenching. The bulldozer is used to clear the line and cut a deep ripper furrow along the line to facilitate the subsequent excavation of the trench with the back-hoe. This speeds up the trenching enormously, allowing extensive trenching to be completed. Some of the resulting trenches are shown in the pictures below.
These three pictures of the trenches show the effectiveness of our work in the westernmost part of the West Zone. The main features to note from these pictures are that: (i) the terrain is gently rolling and very accessible, (ii) the area being trench-explored is huge, and (iii) red coloration in the trenches is common and reflects many areas originally sulphide rich but now leached to "cap" rock. The reason for the trenching in this area is that it is relatively heavily overburden covered so that there are not good exposures of bedrock. In addition there is significant mineralization possibilities occur in this area as reflected by the red cap rock zones, and abundant cobbles and boulders of magnetite and specular hematite float. Trenching is the fastest way to figure out the potential here. Where bedrock is exposed in these trenches (most of their length), they will be sampled at two meter intervals. These samples are crushed, pulverized and analyzed with our Niton X-Ray Fluorescence instrument operated in our Hermosillo office. The main objective, of course, is to prioritize drilling when we acquire our Prospector II reverse circulation drill.
Next week will see the continuation of the sampling and assaying of the West Zone. Building road access might start on the Central Zone. Preparations for receiving our state-of-the-art Prospector II reverse circulation drill will begin.
Trenches in the westernmost part of the West Zone on the Don Luis Property. Views, from left to right, are looking west (Trench #6, 2011), looking east (Trench #4, 2011), and looking west (Trench #5, 2011). The potential of a huge area is being examined.
Week ended 22 January 2011:Don Luis, Sonora, and a new concession in Michoacan, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome over the last week continued on Don Luis. The way we effectively trench rocky terrain with a normal sized back-hoe might be of interest. We use a small bulldozer to first clear the route for the trench. This bulldozer then rips as deep as possible a furrow down the centre of the cleared path (the bulldozer has a single-tooth ripper mounted at the back). The resulting ripper furrow provides a straight and broken-rock path along which the back-hoe can follow. The left picture, below, shows the bulldozer on the cleared path for a long trench in the westernmost part of West Zone at Don Luis. The next step will be for the bulldozer to rip a furrow down the centre of this path. The back-hoe will then trench into bedrock more easily, more rapidly and more efficiently. This particular trench, shown in the left picture, is of interest because of abundant cobbles and boulders of magnetite and hematite float in the western (farthest) part of the trench.
Early in the week Bojorquez and Godwin examined and sampled a new concession that we accessed from La Huacana in Michoacan. The property has interesting copper (central picture) and specular hematite veins and breccia (right picture) showings of the IOCG (iron oxide, copper, gold) type.
Mid-week Godwin returned to Vancouver, British Columbia. Next week, trenching and sampling in the West Zone at Don Luis will continue, but the trenching activity soon will transfer to the Central Zone.
Left picture, looking west, shows bulldozer preparation for subsequent back-hoe trenching on the westernmost part of the West Zone; the distant part is heavily covered with overburden, but is of interest because of abundant cobbles and boulders of magnetite and hematite float. The two right pictures are from the new concession being evaluated from La Huacana, Michoacan. The center picture is copper rich malachite; the right picture is an iron rich specular hematite breccia. These samples are representative of IOCG (iron oxide, copper, gold) type deposits.
Week ended 15 January 2011: Don Luis, Sonora, and Inguaran, Michoacan, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week on the Don Luis Property involved continued trenching and sampling in the West Zone. The left picture, below, shows the extreme lengths of the trenches that are being tested. The red color and abundant quartz being exposed in almost all the trenching is encouraging.
Godwin revisited the Inguaran Porphyry Copper, Cilver (Gold, Tungsten) Property. The objective was to examine the Sarandona breccia zones because a local small-mine operator, Victorino Hurtado, is interested in making a deal with Rome on these high-grade copper zones. These showing are in the steep and mountainous northeast corner of our Inguaran Property. Access close to the showing is difficult and along a tight, steep canyon. Victorino was smart and went most of the way on his horse (right picture, below)—the rest of us walked!
In the coming week Godwin, working out of La Huacana in the state of Michoacan, is evaluating a concession recently obtained. Trenching is continuing, of course, on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property in Sonora.
Left picture is Trench 1 this year in the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. It shows our extensive sampling. The right picture is Victorino Hurtado on a visit this week to Rome's Sarandona copper-breccia showing in the Inguaran area. Victorino is interested in making an offer on this property because he needs high-grade copper reserves to feed his copper flotation plant, which is at the historic Inguaran Mine that is within Rome's Inguaran Property. Our interests are focused on the porphyry copper style mineralization that is in the heart of the Inguaran Valley.
Week ended 08 January 2011: Visits in British Columbia, Canada, and Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome over Christmas to this week on the Don Luis Property involved continued trenching and sampling in the West Zone. At least 400 meters of trenching and sampling were completed. Some of the young Mexican helpers are really enthusiastic and strong—so much so that one lad broke an Estwing hammer! This is the first broken Estwing that we have seen, so it is worth a picture (left, below). And maybe a bonus for the energetic person who broke it!
Niton X-ray fluorescence analysis with attendant data reduction was completed on the regional sampling; it continues on West Zone trench samples. Six samples of diamond drill core from the early 2010 program have been collected for bench tests that will be checked in the laboratory to determine the induced polarization responses in the selected core samples. This should help reinterpretation of the early geophysical surveys on which the first diamond drilling was based. This is important, of course, to ongoing exploration. The testing will be done by Pacific Geophysics Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C.
Godwin compiled the geology of the entire Don Luis Property. Interpretive cross-sections and genesis of the property were drawn. The origin and significance of Brain Rock with UST-texture was addressed. A PowerPoint presentation of this work was given to a breakfast meeting of geologists at the British Columbia Branch of the Geological Association of Canada. If any reader would like a pdf version of this PowerPoint slide show, please just drop an email request to Colin Godwin at cigodwin@yahoo.com. The core of the presentation will be provided in a News Release soon.
The Hermosillo office is home to an increasingly valuable array of equipment, such as field GPS units and compasses, radon soil gas testers, and mainly, the Niton X-ray fluorescence analytical instrument. Consequently, security was increased with the installation of window bars (below, right).
During the coming week, trenching and sampling in the West Zone will continue. But the focus for Bojorquez and Godwin will be a revisit to the Inguaran Porphyry copper, silver (gold, tungsten) property and district.
Left picture is of a rare broken Estwing prospector's pick. Right picture shows the security window grids added to Rome's office in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
Week ended 18 December 2010: Work on the Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week on the Don Luis Property involved continued trenching and sampling in the West Zone. Niton X-ray fluorescence analysis with attendant data reduction continued on the regional sampling and on samples from the West Zone trenches.
The trenches in the West Zone are dominantly limonite rich (left picture, below). Quartz rich zones are common (right picture). Based on 2006 trenching and early 2010 diamond drilling, it seems likely that the limonite areas might be silver rich and the quartz zones might be gold rich.
X-ray fluorescence assay data for all the East Zone trenches have been assembled. The sensitivity of this method for gold and silver is not adequate for our needs. Consequently, about one in five samples are being submitted for gold and silver analysis at a certified laboratory. Nevertheless, the preliminary results are sufficient to define reverse circulation drill targets.
Trenching and sampling in the West Zone will continue. Niton X-ray fluorescence analysis with attendant data reduction will continue on the regional sampling and on the samples from the West Zone trenches. Commencement of the evaluation of the East Zone trench sampling data is a priority. A News Release on proposed reverse circulation targets on the East Zone will be released shortly.
Left picture, looking north, is another West Zone trench with very red, limonite-hematite-rich cap rock. Note the silica ridge that crosses the trench and extends to the left of the standing person. Right picture shows the hematitic (red) limonite and quartz-rich zone where it crosses the trench. Good silver and gold values are expected in this trench, and in the West Zone in general.

Week ended 11 December 2010: Visits in British Columbia, Canada, and Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview for Don Luis click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week on the Don Luis Property involved trenching and sampling in the West Zone. Niton X-ray fluorescence analysis with attendant data reduction continued on the regional sampling and on samples from the West Zone trenches. The line-up of samples being analyzed is shown in the left picture, below.
During the week Colin Godwin visited Multi-Power Products Ltd. in Kelowna, British Columbia. During this visit the accessory list for the soon to be purchased Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill (center picture) was finalized with the help of veteran driller Patrick Mooney. Patrick is closely involved in the design and use of this state-of-the-art of this drill. Consequently, his advice was particularly timely. Shipment of this drill that is manufactured by Multi-Power Products Ltd. is still expected to be near the end of January next year.
Colin Godwin extended his British Columbia trip to the open-pit porphyry-copper Gibraltar Mine (right picture) at Williams Lake, British Columbia. Guided by the Chief Geologist, John Fleming, he studied the unique geology, visited several open pits, and had an extensive tour of the mine's solvent extraction electro-winnowing plant (SXEW), which produces pure electrolytic copper from heap-leach dumps of oxide copper ore. The application of this technology is relevant to some long-term objectives of Rome in Mexico.
Trenching and sampling in the West Zone will continue. Niton X-ray fluorescence analysis with attendant data reduction will continue on the regional sampling and on the samples from the West Zone trenches. Commencement of the evaluation of the East Zone trench sampling data is a priority.
The left picture shows some of the samples lined up for X-ray fluorescence analysis. The center picture shows the Prospector II Reverse-Circulation Drill that has the unique ability of setting up on inclined surfaces with minimum surface preparation and disturbance; scheduled delivery of this drill to Rome in Mexico near the end of January is on time. The right picture shows one of the open pits at the porphyry-copper Gibraltar Mine in British Columbia, which was visited by Colin Godwin during the week.
Week ended 4 December 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week on the Don Luis Property saw completion of the regional mapping and geochemical soil and rock sampling. The data collected is being turned into maps that will further focus exploration, and possibly lead to new areas of interest, on the Don Luis Property. Trenching with sampling and mapping continued on the West Zone. Data from the radiometric geophysical field survey, completed last week, was reduced and entered into our data base.
The East Zone trenching program is shown in the map, below. More than 1,500 meters of trenches were cut and sampled every two meters. Additional road access was built; however, some of the trenching doubled as road access. Niton X-ray fluorescence analysis of all the trench samples from the East Zone was completed by week end and the data will be reduced and entered into our data base next week. Data analysis and release of this data as a News Release is expected by the 20th of December This data and its interpretation will allow optimization of a reverse circulation drill program in this area.
During the coming week Colin Godwin will visit Multi-Power Products Ltd. in Kelowna, British Columbia, to review progress on the Explorer II reverse circulation drill that is being built for late January delivery to Rome in Sonora, Mexico. During this visit the accessory list for the drill will be finalized. Trenching and sampling in the West Zone will continue. Niton X-ray fluorescence analysis with attendant data reduction will continue on the regional sampling and begin on the samples from the West Zone trenches.
This map shows the more than 1,500 meters of trenching done in the East Zone of the Don Luis Property. All trenches were sampled at two meter intervals. Most of the trenching is within an area of intense greisen-quartz-muscovite alteration (area outlined in red). The trenches north of this central area are in limonite-rich breccia. Analysis of the data from this sampling will allow optimization of Rome's reverse circulation drilling program to begin next February. The yellow cross locates a small mine that was worked for tungsten during World War II.
Week ended 27 November 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week on the Don Luis Property continued with radiometric geophysics, regional mapping and geochemical soil and rock sampling, and trenching with sampling and mapping. The radiometric geophysical field survey was completed on Friday. Regional field mapping that covers the entire property will be completed early next week. Core from drilling early in the year was transferred to our new permanent storage shed.
Community relations revolve around small things. There is a small ranch near where we are working. It is important that we have a good relationship with the owner, if only because we share our area with their cows. Our relationships with this farmer are excellent because we: buy their delicious cheese, hire the young son of the owner as a trench sampler, provide extra transportation for them from time to time, and give them photos of them at work. As an example of this, the photo on the left, below, is of the rancher in the process of making cheese from his dairy herd; he was very pleased to receive this picture in large format.
Next week will concentrate on some follow-up geology. Trench sampling and mapping in the West Zone will continue. The Niton Xrf analyzes of the trench samples from the East Zone should be completed and analysis of the data from this zone can then proceed so that reverse circulation drill holes can be sited optimally.
Picture on the left shows the dairy farmer, who is resident on the Don Luis Property, making cheese on his ranch. We buy this cheese and hire his son—all helpful for them and for Rome. The right hand picture shows the extensive trenching being done on the Western Zone. This is trench number 69, which gives some indication of the scale of our trenching program. The trench cuts through World War II surface "dry-pan" tungsten workings.
Week ended 20 November 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week involved mainly routine geophysics, regional mapping, trenching, and trench sampling and mapping on the Don Luis Property. The last trenches in our current program on the East Zone of the Don Luis Property were on the quartz-pyrophyllite-breccia spire that returned significant gold values in preliminary assays. The final samples from these trenches have now been cut. When theses samples have been prepared and analyzed we will be a position to summarize our results from the East Zone in an early December News Release.
A shed for permanent storage of diamond drill core, and cuttings, etc., from reverse circulation drilling (expected to begin early in the New Year) essentially has been completed, as shown in the left hand picture, below. All core from the diamond drilling earlier this year will be transferred to this facility next week.
Next week will mark the end of the radiometric geophysical surveys, and regional geological-geochemical mapping. Some follow-up work will remain. Analyses of the East Zone trenching should be complete. Trenching and detailed sampling will continue on the West Zone (see right-hand picture, below).
Picture on the left shows the interior of the nearly completed diamond drill core and reverse-circulation cutting storage shed. Drill core from Don Luis done earlier this year will be transferred here next week. The right hand picture shows back-hoe trenching on red-zones associated with old, World War II dry-pan placer tungsten workings on the West Zone of Don Luis.
Week ended 13 November 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week was mainly trenching in muscovite-limonite-rich alteration associated with old World War II surface dry-pan placer workings for then strategic tungsten. More than 300 meters of trenches were cut. Most of the trenches were straight. Several were 100 meters long; all were cut to bedrock with a backhoe (Picture 1).
Long term community relations were built further during a meeting with geology-mining related professors from CESUES (Centro Estudios Superiores del Estado de Sonora—Picture 2). We invited the relevant professors and their students to visit the Don Luis Property. The invitation was enthusiastically accepted because the professors recognized the uniqueness of the deposit and were keen to see the quartz brain rock (UST texture), which none were familiar with. The group will visit as soon as vehicle transportation becomes available, probably late next week. We think that communication developed during this visit and the upcoming field trip will have long term, positive benefits. The Geology Department at the University of Sonora similarly will be contacted in the near future.
Work next week will continue trenching on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. Colin Godwin is continuing the geological mapping and sampling of the new grid on the property. Niton Xrf analyses, and soil-gas and scintillometer surveys also are continuing. A field visit to the property from professors and students from CESUES is expected and will add to our positive relationships with the Mexican community.
A 100 meter long West Zone trench cuts red, limonite-rich altered greisen at Don Luis. The picture looks north to the peak in the center-distance called Picacho. Rome's property extends beyond this peak. The right hand picture shows the logo of CESUES (Centro Estudios Superiores del Estado de Sonora). A geology-mining group of professors and students from here plan to visit the Don Luis Property next week. Such communication will aid long term community relationships.
Week ended 06 November 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome this week moved trenching and sampling operations from the East Zone to the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. Trenching is being concentrated in muscovite-limonite-rich alteration associated with old World War II surface dry-pan placer workings for then strategic tungsten. Two diamond drill holes in this Western Zone returned significant values of silver (News Release #10, May 28th 2010). Diamond drill hole DLS10DD01 returned 86 meters of 13 gpt silver and drill hole DLS10DD02 returned 280 meters of 12 gpt silver. Both holes were entirely in oxide, but recovery was in the order of 85% indicating that the actual grade of silver is likely much higher. These holes are shown in the left and central pictures below.
Community relations are always very important! In this regard Rome has developed excellent rapport with the community of San Miguel de Horcasitas, which is a small village less than ten kilometers from the Don Luis Property. A number of local men are hired as field assistants for line cutting, soil sampling, trench sampling, drillers' helpers, geophysical helpers, and operators of backhoes and small bulldozers. The local Ejido, a cooperative group of farmers that control the surface rights in the Don Luis area, have voted their support for our activities. We help them build fences, etc., with a monthly payment of about CAN$800 per month, which is due only when we are actively working on the property. The picture on the right, below, shows Rome's Mexican Manager (standing on the left with a hand lens around his neck), presenting a check to the President of the San Miguel de Horcacitas Ejido.
Work next week will continue trenching on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. Colin Godwin is returning to the property to continue geological mapping and sampling of the new grid on the property.
A new round of trenching has just started on the West Zone at Don Luis where drill holes DLS10DD01 (left) and DD02 (center) returned significant intersections of oxide silver. The right hand picture shows he President of the San Miguel de Horcasitas Ejido receiving a check for the equivalent of about CAN$800 as compensation for surface access to Rome's Don Luis Property.
Week ended 30 October 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico and Investors' Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com),
Work by Rome this week involved mainly: (i) finishing the trenches on the East Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property, (ii) constructing a shed for core, cutting and sample storage, and (iii) attending the October Investors' Conference at Llubjana in Slovenia.
The last trench in our current program on the East Zone of the Don Luis Property was cut to explore the quartz-pyrophyllite-breccia spire that returned significant gold values. This spine is shown in Picture 1.
A shed for permanent storage of diamond drill core, and cuttings, etc., from reverse circulation drilling (expected to begin early in the New Year) has been nearly completed. The storage shed is shown in Picture 2.
Colin Godwin, the President of Rome, attended an investment conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia on the 22nd and 23rd of October. Rome posters and brochures were displayed and handed out in the booth of Heidelberger Vermögensverwaltung GmbH (HDV: Picture 3). He also gave a Power Point slide show to a large group of investors on Rome's exploration targets and plans for the Don Luis and the La Colorada Properties. Copies of this presentation can be obtained by contacting him at cigodwin@yahoo.com.
Work next week will start trenching on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. The first trench will be cut eastward starting near diamond drill hole DLS10DD02. This hole yielded significant silver values over most of its 400 meter vertical depth.
Pictures from left to right are Picture 1: trenching at a quartz-pyrophyllite-spire with significant gold values in the East Zone of the Don Luis Property; Picture 2: construction of a storage shed for core, cuttings, sample storage, etc.; and Picture 3: poster presentation at the October Investors' Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Week ended 23 October 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome during this week consisted of continued trenching and sampling on the East Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. The East Zone is more than a kilometer in diameter within the three kilometer by one kilometer Don Luis alteration area.
Alteration and stockwork veining encountered in the road cut/trench below and east of "Brain Rock Hill" in the East Zone looks encouraging. The pictures below show the characteristic extreme red hematitic alteration and the stockwork quartz veining. This area is about 100 meters below a small World War II tungsten mine. Samples from this area will be assayed.
Work next week will continue trenching in the East Zone in the vicinity of a quartz-pyrophyllite-breccia spire that returned significant gold values. Activity will then move to trenching in the West Zone.
This road cut/trench below and east of "Brain Rock Hill" is in the East Zone. The mineralization encountered looks encouraging—note the deep red hematite alteration color. The area also is characterized by intense stockwork quartz veining, as seen in hand specimen on the right.
Week ended 16 October 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Readings of soil gas with a Pylon radon detector also continued. Radical application of this technique has defined an anomalous area in northern part of the West Zone (see picture and map). This anomaly defines a specific type of altered porphyry (INTRUSIVE 1) that appears to be important because there are abundant World War II surface-dry-pan tungsten workings here.
Work next week will continue trenching in the East Zone in the vicinity of a quartz-pyrophyllite-breccia spire that returned significant gold values. Activity will then move to trenching in the West Zone that is generally in the vicinity of diamond drill holes DLS10DD06 to 7 (#'s 1 to 7 on map).
Reading soil gas with Pylon radon detector that helps to define specific types of altered porphyry. Red area in northwestern corner of the map (West Zone) is a unique unit within the altered porphyry (INTRUSIVE 1) that appears to be particularly important because there are abundant old surface tungsten dry-pan workings here. Black dots mark completed diamond drill holes. This area will be trenched and sampled to help focus future drilling.
Week ended 09 October 2010: Don Luis Property, Sonora, Mexico (for overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Work by Rome during the week was mainly trenching and sampling on the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. Work continued on soil-gas and scintillometer analyzes. In addition, detailed geological mapping, and soil and lithogeochemical sampling over the entire property was initiated. The huge amount of information obtained from the above work will contribute to a focused reverse-circulation drilling program.
A large number of samples are being taken. The soil samples will be screened; the trench and lithogeochemical samples will be pulverized. First-pass, economical analysis of these samples is made possible by the purchase of a Niton (XLt-500 Series) X-ray fluorescence analyzer. This instrument is used in the field for immediate analytical information. In a controlled office setting pulverized and screened samples are analyzed systematically. (See pictures below.)
Work next week will continue as above. Trenching is slow because it is being done in the steep terrain on the east side of "Brain Rock Hill", which is centered on the East Zone. These trenches are however, successfully providing almost continuous exposure of significant bedrock.
Use of the Niton X-ray fluorescence analyzer is shown above for field and office applications.
Week ended 02 October 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for property overview click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Most work by Rome Resources Ltd. during the week continued on the East Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. Intense surface alteration in the East Zone covers an area with about 80 meters of topographic relief that is about one kilometer by one kilometer. This East Zone is within the three kilometer by one kilometer Don Luis alteration area where drilling in the West Zone has encountered significant silver. Work this week continued road building and trenching below and east of "Brain Rock Hill" near the center of the East Zone. Limonite breccias were encountered but the road will extend into greisen. Sampling and XRF-analyses of trench samples continued, as did soil-gas geochemical and scintillometer surveys.
Work next week is expected to complete trenching on the East Zone. Work will then shift focus to the West Zone.
Reading discriminating scintillometer. Readings from this instrument helps to define specific types of granitic rocks by measuring percent potassium, etc.
Red area in the southwestern corner of the map (West Zone) marks an apparently unique unit within the altered porphyry (INTRUSIVE 3) that is marked by abundant, old, dry-pan-surface-workings for tungsten. Black dots mark completed diamond drill holes. This area will be trenched and sampled to help focus future drilling.
Week ended 24 September 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for details click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Most work by Rome during this week was on the East Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. The East Zone is more than a kilometer in diameter within the three kilometer by one kilometer Don Luis alteration area where drilling in the West Zone encountered significant silver. Summary of the main work this week follows: 1. Trenching by backhoe: 200 meters 2. Road construction by backhoe: 400 meters 3. Surveys: continuation of scintillometer and radon soil-gas work 4. Analyses: 200 sample by qualitative X-ray fluorescence 5. Community Relation/Environmental: three local men have been hired almost full time as field helpers, samplers, linecutters, etc. for the Don Luis exploration project. Additional workers are hired as needed. The village, in part because of this local participation, is very positive about Roma's activities in the area The week coming will continue to concentrate on extending the roads, trenches and sampling in the northeastern corner of the East Zone. Preliminary results from the scintillometer survey will be presented.
Trenching in the northeastern corner of the East Zone of the Don Luis Property. Significant quartz vein stockwork is abundant in the area to be trenched. .
Week ended 17 September 2010: Don Luis, Sonora, Mexico (for details click Projects > Don Luis in www.RomeResources.com)
Most work by Rome (Roma) during this week was on the East Zone of the Don Luis Silver-Gold-Tungsten Greisen-Porphyry Property. The Don Luis Property is marked by an alteration zone about three kilometers long and one kilometer wide. First stage diamond drilling encountered encouraging silver values in the West Zone. Summary of main work this week on the East Zone (more than one kilometer in diameter) follows: 1. Trenching with backhoe: 150 meters. 2. Road construction with backhoe: 250 meters. 3. Surveys: continuation of scintillometer and radon soil-gas work. 4. Analyses: 200 samples by X-ray fluorescence. 5. Community Relation/Environmental: monthly payment to San Miguel de Horcasitas Ejido for surface access and permission to build roads, trenches, etc.
Roma is working under the authority/permission of SEMARNAT (the federal environmental agency) under Permit "Norma 120".
The week coming will concentrate on extending the roads, trenches and sampling in the northeastern corner of the East Zone.
